What We Do

We're not just a shelter.
We're a resource for rescues.

Think of Heidi's Village as a home base for the animal welfare community. When rescue organizations run out of space, funds, or support — we step in. We give animals a safe place to stay, the medical care they need, and the help to find their forever home.

A Safe Place to Stay

Rescue animals get comfortable, affordable housing on our 5-acre campus while they wait for their forever home. Rescues only pay what they can — we handle the rest.

Medical Care That Saves Lives

Our on-site veterinary clinic performs surgeries, vaccinations, and urgent care for rescue animals at subsidized rates — care they couldn't otherwise afford.

A Stronger Community

We connect 120+ rescue organizations with shared resources, knowledge, and support — because no single rescue can solve this alone. Together, we find a home for every pet.

Subsidized Boarding

Clean, comfortable housing for dogs and cats from partner rescue organizations. Capacity for 250 dogs and 200 cats — so rescue groups never have to turn an animal away because of space.

The Valley's Only Year-Round Kitten Nursery

Newborn kittens need round-the-clock care that most shelters can't provide. Our Smitten Kitten Nursery gives every tiny kitten a fighting chance — and sends 670+ graduates to forever homes each year.

Ginny Jontes, founder of Heidi's Village, with Heidi the white schnauzer

"Every pet deserves a home. We built the village it takes to find it."

— Virginia "Ginny" Jontes, Founder

Our Story

Started with one dog.
Built for thousands.

Heidi was a white schnauzer — beloved and well-cared for — until her owner Joan could no longer provide for her. Instead of walking away, Joan's community stepped in. They found Heidi a home. They made a promise.

That promise became Heidi's Village.

Founded by Virginia "Ginny" Jontes in 2020, Heidi's Village was built on the belief that no animal should fall through the cracks when community shows up. Today, our 5-acre Phoenix campus serves as a lifeline for more than 120 rescue organizations — and a home base for every pet that needs one.
